A good designer can build a collection over time, but a GREAT designer has to keep up with fashion cycles. We finish one collection and immediately have to get inspired for new ideas. A consumer gets bored looking at the same garment over and over. Sure it shows the world the designer can sew. But we are not seamstresses, we are designers. How do we find inspiration over and over to lure the excited eye? We should be happy that you keep wanting more. An artist looks deeply for their muse, but a fashion designer must look everywhere for inspiration to strike. Competitively, we must keep up with ever changing economies, social settings, and pop culture. We keep pictures, scrapbooks, mood boards and flip books. Inspiration comes from fabric stores collecting fabric swatches, hiking in the outdoors collecting textures, strolling through downtown photographing architecture, and researching the internet or visiting museums discovering modern art. To tell you the truth, I have ideas floating everywhere. I keep scrap fabric to play with new techniques and promise myself to turn it into a fabulous garment. Today, I play with all my inspirations and techniques working toward my new Utopia collection. My hope is with proper staging, partnering with my photographer, together we can lure your eyes and many more. Draw you in for a closer look at the technical aspects of my design. The photos you see here are just a few pics on my mood board. It is actually an adventure taking us away from technology. Hoping it will get you excited about what I am dreaming up in my workroom! Stay tuned as you here more about the inspirations behind this collection and watch what happens in the workroom in the coming days.
