It has only been a few short months since I met Megan Cravens.  There was just something about her from the minute a local friend shared her picture with me.  No doubt she is just drop dead gorgeous, but she is also the type of person who shows you her heart.  I think I was drawn to it.  Little did I know after she modeled for me in my first collection of 2017, that Megan has Cystic Fibrosis.  Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, kidneys, heart, and intestine.  Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections.  Honestly, all I knew of the disease was what I saw on an episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Yesterday, while most of the locals were out at the Kentucky Derby, my family and I had the privilege of attending the Megan's Wish live auction.  What an amazing event to be apart of!  As you read Megan's story, you find that she used to make wishes on stars to find a cure for CF.  That was how the Megan's Wish fundraiser got started.  Megan continues to raise money for the CF foundation as they research for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.  I watched Megan get excited as she worked the event.  Again, you could see her heart as she worked.  This little girl......this young woman, is such an inspiration to everyone!  However, not only was this a great charity event, it was fun!  My kiddos had a blast playing the kiddie games and getting prizes, my husband was so stoked as he spent my entire allowance on auction items, and of course the food was delicious!  Seriously, if you are a local in Kentuckiana, next year you should really come out this event and support our gorgeous model!

Looking at Megan, you see an ordinary, beautiful girl.  Megan and I discussed it lately, most people don't know she has CF or even believe her when she tells them.  This reminds me of my own daughter, Savannah Rose.  Savannah is a 10 year old girl who most of the time is strong and energetic.  However, when we least expect it, Savannah will become lathargic, tachychardic or septic.   She in no way, has to deal with the troubles Megan has had to deal with, but she has spent more than enough time in hospitals and clinics.  Savannah has an un-diagnosed condition where her immune system does not work like most and her heart rate stays elevated all the time.   Savannah has been through countless tests, and recently has been advised to go to Indianapolis to do more testing, for answers.  Honestly where Savannah Rose is concerned, it is the tests that are the hardest on her, but we still await answers on why it is happening to her.  We still wonder each day if she will be the same girl flipping around on the gymnastics mats, or if she will be in the ER.

It is because of Megan's Inspiration and Savannah's struggles that our family chooses to help Megan any way we can as she works for what she is passionate about.  We know that any advancements in medicine can help so many.  Whether it is CF, Cancer or any of the thousands of other medical disorders that can affect people, we strive towards cures,  treatments, and tests with answers.  For this reason, as business owners, we have decided to donate 10% of all of our sales towards Megan's Wish and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  We believe in what Megan is fighting for!

So for everyone out there in our blogging world....know that any purchases you make with Infinite Possibilities, you will be helping fight for a cure!

Call me bias, but I think this girl is STUNNING.  OK, it is true, she is my daughter.  She has been with me in this business from the very beginning.  What she didn't realize is by becoming inspiration and a face behind my design business, it gave her confidence she needs in every day life.  This child is fearless!

Today, besides being a model, she spends her days flipping and tumbling for Synergy Athletics in Seymour.  Off the mats she is die hard studying.  It is her dream to become a pediatric surgeon someday and at a young age of 10, she knows what it takes to get there.

Savannah Rose is also a big supporter of mine.  She wants to know about every consultation, about every order.  She's also one of my biggest critics.  When she is running around the studio, I find myself glancing over at her for a thumbs up or thumbs down.

The designer in me has to mention what a fabulous model she really is.  She is ready to be serious, and to bring some attitude!  During a tea party photo shoot, I had a no call/no show model.  Savannah Rose just happened to be tagging along with me on the shoot.  Her hair was a mess!  Within moments we made a quick decision to use Savannah Rose as a fill-in and it ended up being the best session she had had.

We are just two weeks away from "The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports" where thousands of people attend Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky to try their luck on a single horse race. But the Kentucky Derby isn't an all day event just because of a two minute race, the fun is in the festivities, the social atmosphere, and the FASHION!

Do you know the story behind the over-the-top hats, fascinators and outfits that Oaks and Derby-goers wear as a staple for this huge event?  "Part southern tradition, part spectacle", here is an article about the history of the hats:

https://www.kentuckyderby.com/history/traditions/hats

"The event quickly became just as much about the fashion as the racing. Going to a horse racing event became an opportunity to show off the latest in spring fashion and women were known to coordinate their hats, dresses, bags, shoes, and even parasols."

Lucky for you, we have some fascinators in stock in a variety of colors for the big day!  In addition, we can custom make one to your specifications!  Each one is just $24 and is sure to put a little spring in your step!  Click HERE now to purchase your fascinator for this year's Kentucky Derby on May 7

Meet Raven.  I met Raven back in 2012.  She was a little girl on a U10 Soccer team that I somehow was convinced to coach.  She was a fearless girl with definite attitude.  She quickly became friends with my son, Memphis who was on the soccer team with her.  Through the years, her friendship with Memphis, and my other children grew.  Lets just say they have shared in getting into trouble together.

Today, Raven doesn't have the attitude she once had, but she is definitely fearless.  She overcomes daily challenges that most teenage girls face with dignity.  Raven is turning into a stunning young woman.  I am proud to know this girl, and even more proud to have her as one of the faces of Infinite Possibilities.

who inspires you?

Inspiration can come from everywhere.  Sometimes it is a person in your everyday life, sometimes it is someone famous.  Some of us are inspired by scenery whether God made, or man-made.

The question has been asked to me many times.  Honestly, I really don't know how to answer.  Yes, I am inspired by famous designers.  But I don't want to "be them".  While the idea of being well-known may appeal to some, I like living in my old world here in the small town of Seymour.  However, to DRESS someone famous?  Now that would be something fun!!  But maybe that is just that pride inside of me dreaming of being recognized.

Now as much as I LOVE the outdoors, I don't think I have ever truly been inspired by nature.  On the other hand, some man-made things have inspired me.  One thing that I have been dreaming about is designing a collection based on Main Street U.S.A, at Disney World.  Not the costumes that walk the streets, but the houses, and shops are gorgeous!  There is just something in there that says it could be a great collection.  Sounds like I should really start planning that next trip.

Of course its hard not to take inspiration from my children.  Mostly their personalities.  I have some that are as messy as messy could be.  Some that are classy and try to be so sophisticated.  Some rockers, some sporty, and even one clown-style crazy.  When you are surrounded by someone as much as I am with all ten of my children, it is hard for them not to inspire you.

That all being said, I know that most of my inspiration comes from my grandma.  She was the seamstress.  She never physically "taught" me how to sew, but she sure did inspire me.  I knew she was brilliant at it.  Honestly, she was not just brilliant with the sewing machine, but she was just brilliant at life.  Her cooking, the way she kept house, even the way she dealt with every day people.  I think of her with each creation I make.  And yes, there is some crazy in me too, because sometimes I even talk to her while I sew.

Whatever it is that inspires you.  Embrace it.  Inspiration makes the world a prettier place.

Happy birthday aubrey!

Happy Birthday Aubrey!  Aubrey is the face behind our creative marketing and new branding for Infinite Possibilities.  She is also the mother of two of our special Infinite Possibilities Models.

Aubrey and I met many years ago when I was coaching my son's soccer team.  It was getting a little chaotic taking it on my own, to say the least.  Aubrey was so kind to step in and help out without being asked.  I was so thankful then and am still so thankful for everything she is in my life and my business.

Being a sole proprietor, you have to wear all the hats, and marketing needs to be done.  Between designing, sewing, staging, website building, etc, I was drowning keeping up.  Aubrey put her creative juices to work and has stepped in to help brand the business.  Infinite Possibilities would not look the same if it wasn't for her, and thanks to her, we are excited for our future!!

We are celebrating her birthday today by offering our customers 15% off of any online purchases or new design request through Saturday!  Be sure to visit our facebook page for more details.

Check out some of the new marketing materials Aubrey has been working on, and let her know what you think!

Introducing Model Megan

When I was getting ready to construct the Tragic Beautiful Collection, I realized I did not have enough models.  I started go get very nervous because I was the shoot date was getting closer and closer.

With each item I showcase, it is made for the model's measurements.  I needed to find a couple last minute models.

I started asking a new friend of mine who is the cheer mom on my daughter's team.  She sent me three photos of girls and asked if I liked any of them.  One of those photos was Megan.  I immediately was drawn to her eyes.  SHE'S PERFECT! I thought.  My friend contacted her right away and she agreed to model for me.

When I first met Megan she was so shy, but extremely polite.  I took her measurements and scheduled her final fitting.

I will never forget Megan coming in for her final fitting.  You would think she had won a trip to Disney world.  You could see the excitement in her eyes.

Later I had seen Megan at cheer competitions as she is alumni to my daughter's cheer team.  She is not that shy girl I thought she was.  But what she is, is one stunning young woman!

It's just another reason I love my job.  I get to work with all these models and get to know people of all ages.   And by choosing every day women and children as my models, I get to put the spotlight on them for a moment and have them realize just how special and gorgeous they really are.

In the workroom-show vest for scott

2/20/2017

Picture
In my line of work, I have so much to celebrate.  With each bride, I look forward to your wedding day and await the photos.  With each pageant dress I make, I am just as nervous waiting to see the results of crowning.  With each costume, I listen for all the comments you receive and how much fun you have feeling particularly special.  With each vacation attire I create for someone, I get to imagine myself in your destination.

Today I get to work on a vest for the drummer in one of our local bands, Hush Harbor.  They will be playing this Friday night along with Carrollton, The Protest,  Revelators and Ryan Lynton, at the Nachand Fieldhouse in Jeffesonville, Indiana.  I, along with my family will be attending the concert and I can't wait to see Scott rocking his new custom vest.
Picture
Scott requested a vest that was 'loud'.  What better word to describe it, when I know from experience their music is loud.  He also wanted it to fit right in with his chrome drum set.  I ended up finding this gorgeous brocade fabric with a perfect satin for lining.

They say every business needs a particular niche.  I have stirred with that notion many times wondering if it hurts my business not focusing on a specific clientele.  I just can't get myself to focus on one side of things.  Do I specialize in wedding attire?  Costumes?  Little girls boutique items?  Pageant gowns?   If I choose just one of these things, I would miss out on being apart of each one of your special events.  I would miss out watching your little ones grow up as I have all these years creating their birthday attire and costumes.  I would miss out on working with you to design your dream wedding gown, and going through the wedding experience with you designing for and getting to know your bridesmaids.  I would miss out on discovering just who Harley Quinn is, because I neve would have designed a costume inspired by that character.  So I sit here in my studio, creating whatever someone requests.  Those of you who dream of having that special attire that is different and can't be found in other stores.  Uniquely for YOU.  With that in mind I think our new business name couldn't be a more true fit, "Infinite Possibilities".  The creations I want to make don't fall into a specific category.  They ARE infinite!!

And I end in this:  While this blog post continues to let you know what is going on in my design room, I have to give a shot out to Rock on Winter this Friday! If you are local to southern Indiana, come out for a concert this Friday night and meet some of my friends.  Best news.....IT'S FREE!
