Critiquing myself is something I NEVER struggle to do.  I am NOT a procrastinator, and I am a serious wiz at the sewing machine.  Even cutting a design, I compare myself to the dress being made out of curtains from the movie Enchanted.  Snip, Snap....whala! you have a dress.  However, sometimes it takes me way longer than I plan to finish a garment. At least when it comes to a new design.  I second guess myself, as I imagine all artists do.  I wonder how the world will react.  One of the big questions is, is it too "yesterday".....or in my case too "centuries ago!".

We live in a world that is so fast forward, we are always thinking of what to bring next.  I shop for an iPad for my business and worry that my business won't grow as fast as the need to replace the device because technology keeps moving forward.  But while I see the need to make life easier and more convenient, sometimes I wonder if fashion has to be so fast forward.

I believe their are two groups of fashion designers in the world.  Those that are just as fast forward as those that work for technology advances and those that are not.  The ones that are, are always thinking of the fashion trends, pushing the line one step further.  They are inspirational in their creativity.  The ones who aren't discover that they don't follow a current standard and rarely follow the fashion trends.  These designers are unique and stick with their own personality.  They continue to just add one more style into the world, no matter which decade it falls into.

There is no doubt, when people look at my designs, that I am inspired by times passed. Which again, I think is the case with most artists.  So I am pretty sure I fall into the latter of the two types of designers.  It's not just the eras that draw me in.  I love getting back to basics and looking at the techniques of designers like Dior.  I have been spending some time in the books....(well actually, I am finally getting into my own time and downloading textbooks on the iPad)...and studying construction of designers from long ago.  Yes, I have been doing this for 8 years, but I don't think anyone can ever stop learning.  No one should ever stop educating themselves.  And I will never have a head big enough to say otherwise.

Yet, I am very aware that I need to bring in the fashion of today, and what people want for tomorrow.  My hope is though I am inspired by times passed, I will keep putting my spin on it, bringing those decades to today.  And keep imagining where the fashion world is going and what you as the consumer will be looking for.  I will keep adding that one more style to the world, because I believe, even if it is too "yesterday", someone out there is a vintage fashionista.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.  After all...YOU are the consumer.  Don't sit by and hope that that dream gown floats onto you computer screen.  Comment on my blog, comment on a facebook or instagram post.  Get us excited about what YOU are excited about.
